Older categories of folk begin with the dhadi genre, which emphasises stories of heroism and love stories like the romantic tales of Heer-Ranjha and Mirza-Sahiba. In almost every wedding ceremony family members, friends, and professional folk musicians perform different sets of folk songs which use themes from a nostalgic past. Modern Punjabi music has evolved to incorporate many world sounds. It has moved with time but the use of traditional instruments and folk stories is still present and it seems that this tradition will continue to influence new music makers.
